Message from the Chief

My name is Billy Reynolds. I am the Chief of Police for the City of Richmond Hill Police Department. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Richmond Hill Police Department web page.

First let me say that the Richmond Hill Police Department is one of the finest police departments in the State of Georgia and I am very proud to be it's leader. The men and women of the department are a fine group of people who entered the law enforcement field to serve and protect. This is a promise that we make to all the people of Richmond Hill.

We are dedicated to providing the citizens of Richmond Hill a quality and professional law enforcement agency while being responsive to the needs of the community. Highly trained and motivated men and women are here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The City of Richmond Hill is located approximately 12 miles south of Savannah, Georgia. We are considered by many a suburb of Savannah and as such have experienced tremendous growth for many reasons, some of which include the school system, lower taxes and the almost non-existent violent crime rate.

Currently, there are approximately 15,000 citizens who reside in the City limits. Geographically unique, Bryan County is divided by the Fort Stewart Military Installation. When Richmond Hill is mentioned, most would consider Richmond Hill as the entire southern portion of the county.

Additionally, a major interstate system, Interstate 95, runs through the City of Richmond Hill which adds to the population of the City. On any given day, the estimated temporary population of the City could be estimated at 20 thousand people or more.

The City of Richmond Hill employs 30 sworn officers and 8 administrative staff. We earned State Certification in January 2000 by meeting the standards adopted by the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program.

I would like to thank Richard R. Davis, the Mayor of Richmond Hill, former Mayor Douglas T. Ellis, our city manager Mr. Michael Melton, and  present and previous members of the City Council for their continued support during my tenure as Chief of Police. Without their trust, support and guidance, we would not have the outstanding department that we have today.

In closing, we hope that you will find our web page informative and would encourage you to let us know what you think. The men and women of the Richmond Hill Police Department wish to thank you for your continued support and encourage you to buckle-up, drive safely and get involved your community. Together we can make a difference.

Chief B. D. Reynolds
