Court Date & Time

Municipal Court is conducted every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 3pm, with the exception of city holidays. A defense attorney is provided through the courts for those that do not have an attorney present and wish to have representation.

The Municipal Court hears cases involving:
•    Traffic Violations
•    City Ordinance Violations
•    City Code Violations

Methods of Payments
•    Cash
•    Money Order
•    Cashier Check
•    Visa, Master Card or Debit Card (by cardholder, in person, and with proper identification)

Money orders and Cashier checks must be made payable to the Richmond Hill Municipal Court. No partial payments on bonds will be accepted.


If a citation is not paid before the court date, and the person fails to appear in court, a suspension notice or bench warrant may be issued for his or her arrest, which could result in additional fines and suspension of driving privileges.

How to Pay a Citation
If you do not wish to appear in court you must pay your citation before your court date. Payments may be made Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Richmond Hill Police Department.

Payments may also be mailed. Please include a copy of your citation or a note with the citation number on it.

If you have posted a cash bond for an offense that does not require a court appearance and you do not appear in court your bond will be forfeited and your case will cleared as guilty by bond forfeiture.

You may now make payment of your citation via the internet by logging onto www.richmondhilltix.com.

Court Appearance
If you do not post a cash bond prior to your court date, you must appear in court. Court begins promptly at 3:00 p.m.

Dress code for court is casual but no jeans, shorts, tee shirts or tank tops will be acceptable. No pocket books, briefcases, cell phones or pagers are allowed in the courtroom.

Cases involving juveniles (those persons 16 and under will be transferred to Juvenile Court. The Department of Juvenile Justice (912)653-5918) will contact offenders and their parents of their court date

Cases (one time only) may be postponed by 3:00 p.m. on the day before your court date for the following reasons:

•    Emergencies with proper verification
•    Subpoena from a higher court
•    Military obligations (must have your supervisor, E6 or above, come to the Clerk’s office and complete the appropriate forms)
•    Postponements for other reasons require a cash bond.


Probation Services
The Municipal Court Judge often sentences persons to probation. These persons are monitored by a Probation Officer from Professional Corrections (912) 232-0162, who ensures that they make scheduled fine payments and complete counseling or other conditions by the Judge.

Certified Dispositions
Certified Dispositions may be requested by individuals who have had their case heard in Municipal Court. The disposition shows all charges and the Judge’s decision. Dispositions may be obtained at a cost of $3.00. You may also request a disposition by mail by sending a money order or cashier check to the Richmond Hill Municipal Court.
